We have received such a strong response for Wednesday's Flavor Tripping that we have decided to stay in Austin and throw another party on Friday the 31st! It will be at The Belmont from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Tito's and Yelp will be joining us for the festivities. We can't wait! |

Texas' favorite vodka, Tito's Vodka, has agreed to become our event sponsor for our next round of flavor tripping parties in Austin and Houston. Tito's will be sponsoring a chemistry-set-cum-vodka bar at the events for guests to make their own creative concoctions. We're also working on some specialty cocktails designed specifically for the miracle berry. |

The next Flavor Tripping event will be held at The Belmont, 305 West 6th St. on Wednesday, July 29th 2009 from 6pm-8pm.
The cost for each ticket will be $40 and a portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the local charity We Are Learning which provides social and learning opportunities to children with special educational needs. Tickets will be available online so please check back here again soon. |
Because we expect the Nov 7 event to sell out soon, we've added a second event at Saint Arnold brewery. The additional event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23 from 5-7 pm. What better way to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon? This event will be geared more towards foodies and will have more obscure food items like injera, bitter melon, and natto. Feel free to bring your own weird food or condiments too, however no other alcoholic beverages may be brought into the brewery. |
St Arnold brewery was forced to cancel both events at their brewery, but our good friends at The Social have come through for us. Both November flavor trippings will be held at their bar on Washington Ave @ Yale. The parties will be on the same date but will be starting a half hour earlier so we have longer to flavor trip!
Although the Chowhounds were very saddened by the news -- we love supporting our local microbrewy -- we recovered quickly and immediately saw this as a way to improve your flavor tripping experience. After all, now we could choose our own beer! Research! Some of us made our way over to the Gingerman last night and under the influence of some frozen miracle berries I had handy, sampled A HELL OF A LOTTA beer. The three we have chosen -- all super-prestigious beers which will be free flowing at both events -- we unanimously voted as the best under the influence (of the fruit, of course). Here are our notes and results. Drum roll please....
Guiness tastes like chocolate milk!
Brooklyn Lager is sweet and still tastes like damn good beer!
St. Arnold Elissa IPA was yummalicious and had a great finish!

I will be receiving a shipment of 50 frozen miracle berries next week and am seeking people undergoing active chemotherapy treatment to donate berries to free of charge. A WSJ article and other online sources state that miracle berries have been known to help get rid of the metallic taste in chemo patients' mouths therefore increasing palatability of food and overall appetite. I am interested in seeing for myself if these fruit can improve cancer patients' quality of life.
